The 2 readings that I have chosen were “ Death to racism and punk revisionism” and “ Rosetta Tharpe and Feminist ‘Un-forgetting’” I believe the connection between these 2 readings is that there are so many styles of music and types of rock and roll genres that people should enjoy all and that there should be more of a balance between Rock and Roll of Masculinity and Feminism in the Genre of Rock and Roll so that the genre can be more of the wide-based genre. I believe that if Tharpe had been more open and been more widely popularized and hadn't been removed from the historical timeline, more people would know about her music and influence, and more people would credit her as being part of the beginnings of rock and roll,. I also feel like we might have watched a lot of male singers like Elvis and other male artists just because of how masculinized rock and roll was portrayed and how much power was being put on society for Rock and Roll being all-male genres. “Biography can be critical and it can be feminist. It can shed light on women’s lives while questioning the historical apparatuses that have excluded them. And it can be a profoundly instructive experience for the feminist scholar. Writing about Tharpe’s life required me to engage, in a deeply practical way, with theoretical questions about authenticity, authority, singularity, genius, and influence” ( Gayle Wad ) “ Alice Bag’s performance style because it allows us to explore the cultural stakes of reconstructing Hollywood punk culture, including the racialized tensions that surrounded those scenes…. Mexican musical culture on Hollywood Punk” ( Haball-Palan )
I picked this song “ Bikini Kill” by the Rebel Girl because in their song they explain how this one girl is starting a revolution and that she is going to be the queen of the world
