The music industry using self-sabataging preventive measures to not support black artist during those times is an extreme method to keep a group of people from being successful. Something that you the industry could benefit from personally wasn't persuasive enough to allow black artist to be successful. This is something that stood out to me in the Memphis Minnie reading because, money in any industries is the most valued commodity but not as much as the racial component that is withstanding in the history of this country. I think what makes it most dishearting is the idea of the origin of a name, jukebox being seen as this threat to society because it is assciated with black people. A name that still persisted anyway no matter how much the music industry tried to rebrand it. I think this is just another example of the racial component playing a major role of oppressing certain groups. I also think this speaks to the power that music has to influnce the masses no matter how much the industry tries to control it. Clearly music has influnce the change in our society as much as protesting or potilical stances. Music open doors for black and brown artist more than any other major industry. Though most of these artist were robbed of their profits, success, and acknowledgement I think reading an excerpt like this shows the importantance of these black and brown artist who came before us and how the new generation should always pay homage. This article also made me think about how that same tactic of self-sabataging has maniefest itself in other industry. For example, listening to a podcast and they talk about how owners in certain sports mainly the NFL, would purpoesly leak negative stories to the public to diminish a player's character to justify not paying him the money he earned. Its just a theory but when I read this article it made me think about how things like this could still be happening.
