The Womxn Who Rock’s 10th Anniversary was absolutely wonderful. The presentation was easy to watch, and it was beautiful to hear from all the guests. One of my favorite parts was when Rosanna Esparaza Ahrens and her mother, Ofelia Esparza spoke about their journey with altar making. They touched on the importance of remembering the person who has past and the life that they lived. Altars help us to remember the people that we love, how they loved us, and keeping their spirit alive after they have passed. When people pass away, it not just their legacy that they leave, but also their culture, practices and recipes. There are various formats that a person can be remembered through everyday life. The altars shown in their presentations were colorful and beautiful. They were very inspiring and grand to look at. I loved all the bright colors used and how some had flowers and plants in them. Additionally, when they spoke about altars, they included how the best education you can get is from learning at home with your family. This resonated with me, because I feel like I have learned various life lessons from my parents and family. Growing up, there have been times that I have made mistakes or gotten in trouble, but I was able to learn from that experience. I was able to learn at home. My parents were able to guide me so that I can learn from my mistakes and not make the same ones.
