The main claim that I find most compelling from the readings that also helps to connect them in a specific way is Feminism. Feminism is a very important reasons in our society and history and the real truth is that men have been treated better than women for a long time especially in the music industry and that needs to change. One of this weeks readings says that, "Popular and academic understandings of the cultural production of hip hop tend to focus on the music as a site of misogyny, aggressive masculinity and rampant consumerism" (Histories and 'her...). The music industry today is full of misogyny and this quote that I pulled states it straight up that music has been full of masculinity and that it needs to change. Another quote that I pulled from one of the readings says, "Hip hop has a history of being a genre that sexually objectifies and disrespects women ranging from the usage of video vixens to explicit rap lyrics" (Feminist activism...). There are physical pieces of evidence such as music videos and lyrics that prove that women have been degraded in the music industry since the beginning and men have thrived off of that to this day. I personally believe that misogyny is wrong and women should be treated equal to us as men and should be given the same opportunities as us men in any industry whether that is music or not.

Beyonce ***Flawless- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyuUWOnS9BY
The songs that I decided to use to connect to the readings and the discussion at hand are ***Flawless by Beyonce and Dem Haters by Rihanna. The connection that these songs that I chose have to the readings from class are that both of these songs speak of empowering woman to be proud of who they are. In a way these songs are sort of teaching lessons to woman and giving them that sense of self worth in order to empower them. These readings helped me to find a new sense of what the real purpose behind feminism and women empowerment. I will start to take a more open minded approach towards any issues involving the equal treatment of women and men.
